Ready to Sew

I really want to sew. I have been thinking about it
for a while and now I am ready to start.
I dabbled a little in Hawaii but then the sewing machine
broke and that was the end of my ventures.
I want something easy to use and maybe with
the capability to handle quilting, if I dare try.
(not likely but keeping my options open)
For the moment I just want to fix dress up
clothes and create simple lovelies.
SO, To all you lovely sewers out there,
which machine do you use and why do you LOVE it?

I have a Pfaff but only because my Mom bought it for me. There are plenty of simple machines that would work for you. I would go to a quilt or fabric store and see if they can show you some and give you some advice.

I have a Brother that I got from Costco, so it wasn't very expensive, but I love it! It has a ton of different stitches, it can do button holes, and the alphabet (pretty simple looking though) and it has a quilting foot, but I haven't tried that out yet. Hope that helps! It's great to see you guys!

I have a bernina, they're expensive but AWESOME. I do everything on it sewing clothes/blankets, quilting, making curtains. Mine is an older model from BYU. check some collages, sometimes schools that have those homemaking degrees will have old machines they'll sell when they upgrade. you can also check some machine stores that sell used ones.
PS I miss you!

Bernina.......end of discussion.

agreed....bernina. best machine ever.

but pricey so go with a cheaper machine if your not willing or able to spend the cash right now.

I sewed on the simple singer (cheapest one at walmart) for three years. It broke down a lot and chad had to take it apart often to fix it, but it did it's job.

When I moved I had to get a new machine and since I have been sewing a lot for three years we decided it was worth the investment and I got a Bernina (the cheapest model they offer). It floored me with how well it works. It rocks my world.

i have a cheapy "brother" sewing machine my mom bought for me when i first got married. it still works great and i'm grateful for it. BUT...if i could, i would upgrade to a bernina. it's a dream machine, with a nice cost. some day...(sigh).

I got a Brother machine like Erin. But wouldn't be good for quilting, it's just a simple machine that doesn't have a lot of power to go through thick fabric.

But if you want to barrow mine for a while to try it out you sure can.

Overstock.com is a great place to look at sewing machines. They usually have free shipping.
